A dimwit bandit tried to rob a retired NYPD lieutenant at gunpoint inside a hotel bathroom – with 300 cops gathered next-door at a law enforcement convention.
Ex-cop John Comparetto, with a lot of backup, made the easiest collar of his long career.
“This is probably the dumbest guy in the state of Pennsylvania, “Comparetto said Saturday. “He actually walked past a great, big poster that said, ‘WELCOME NARCOTICS OFFICERS.'”
Comparetto, 56, was one of the speakers at the convention in Harrisburg, PA. He was in the bathroom before Friday morning’s session when Jerome Blanchett stuck a .40-caliber handgun into his face, authorities said.
“I’ve never had a gun up close and personal like that,” Comparetto said. “It was 3 inches from my face.”
Backup arrived quickly.
“There were 10 other guys there within a split-second,” said Comparetto, who left the NYPD in 1999 after a 26-year career.
